The Russian realm has many external and internal issues that makes the place challenging. Has the benefit to ride on the coattail of USSR. The USSR collapsed in 1989, was a global sign for change. Russia is a pale shadow

The Russian Realm

I am writing this blog on an article made by CNBC on the recently built Russia-China oil pipeline. The original article is linked at the bottom. The article is titled

"Russia opens Siberian pipeline to China as Beijing expands its influence in the Arctic"

This pipeline is being built near Belogorsk is Russia. It will stretch a total of 3000 Km to the arctic where Russia has a large resource of oil. It will eventually connect all the way down into Shanghai where China will be able to use the oil. This has some of the western world, especially the United States, a little on their toes because it increases china's control of the arctic slightly and cements Russia's position in the arctic. This article is primarily about control of the arctic as it is a huge area that is relatively unclaimed.

The geographic aspects of this story is mainly concerned on bad weather and heavy snowfall.   In this story they discussed about how bad weather and heavy snowfall is affecting the slope and canceling the event for several days. This is the second time that the event has been canceled for two straight seasons. They attempted to clean out the snow the night before their training sessions, but the conditions were still as bad as it was the next day, so they canceled the session for the safety of their athletes.

By summarizing the article,   the snowfall has strongly affected the slop, forcing them to cancel the event and re-scheduling mandatory training days.

Hi my name is Jordan. I'm from Shaktoolik, Alaska. I am 16 years old and I'm a junior in highschool. And on my spare time I like to go pick wild berries with my family. Some of my interests are volleyball, Native Youth Olympics, basketball, and cross country. I am interested in geography because I am wanting to become a pilot. If that doesn't work out my backup career is a registered nurse, and my number one thing I like to do is helping people that have depression or if that people needs to vent I'm there for them.

Have I studied in geography? Yes I have studied in geography, but it was awhile ago.

Is this course a requirement for your degree? No its not a requirement its just an interest

Three locations I chose was Oahu, Washington D.C., and France.

Hey everyone, my name is Tori Shoemaker and I'm from Savannah, Georgia. I moved to Fairbanks, Alaska to get a brand new experience for college. So far, I've very successful in that realm. I swim for the University of Alaska Fairbanks and taking this class out of interest to the world and as a requirement for classes. Currently, I am undecided on a major so I'm getting a feel for different classes to try to find an interest. I have never studied geography except for a small review in elementary or middle school. I can't wait to begin this class and getting to connect with everyone of you!

Three locations on the class map:

Birthplace: Savannah, GA

Current: Fairbanks, AK

Hoping to visit: Bangkok, Thailand

My name is Nate Hubbard I'm a sophomore in college right now.   This is my second time taking this class.  I'm from California and I live in LA for 3 years now.  I definitely studied geography when I was in high my junior year but that was the last time.  this course is not a requirement for my degree.

Hi, my name is Rebecca and i have never studied Geography before. I am currently an elementary education major and hope to be a teacher some day. I am taking this course because it fulfills a requirement for my degree, but I hope to learn a lot and discover an appreciation for the study of geography. I was unable to locate the class map, but I have spent time in the continental United States (mostly Pennsylvania), Western Canada, and Japan.

Hi. My name is Bradley Lake. I am from Hooper Bay, Alaska and currently living here in Fairbanks attending UAF. I am currently a Junior majoring in Elementary Education. After I am done, I plan on going back home to teach.

I haven't studied geography before, but I have taken classes when I was in middle school. I think this course is my first course of geography here at UAF. This course is one of my social sciences requirements and I chose to take this class. I am excited for this class.

Hello Everyone!

My name is Laura Kercher and I am on my second semester here at UAF, however my third year of college overall. When I was a senior in high school I was also a freshman in college and took classes at the community college in my town. I originally wanted to become a dentist, but now I have decided to become an elementary school teacher, and I couldn't be happier.

I am originally from Germany and moved to New York State in 2007 because of my dad's work. My whole family is "pure" German, and the rest of my family, besides my mom, dad, and brother, still live in Germany. In 2018 I met my now fiance Jake in our home town while he was home from basic training. We are currently living in Missouri until the end of the summer, and then the two of us will move to Alaska for our next duty station. I am very excited!

I am pretty sure I have studied geography before in grade school at some point, but never at a college level. In addition, it is a requirement for my degree.

The three places I submitted in the map assignment are:
Birthplace: Frankfurt, Germany... More specifically Hofheim
Current Place of Residence: Waynesville, MO
Place Most Want to Visit: Greece because of its beautiful architecture and to experience their culture.

Hello all!

My name is Kat Buchanan. I am a senior at UAF pursuing a double major in Fine Art and Biology. I have also completed my Associates in Paramedicine at the UAF CTC campus. Currently, I am working as a firefighter/paramedic here in Fairbanks. I am taking this class because it was in the list of optional humanities/social sciences classes that I need to graduate, and this class looked interesting. I have studied geography a few times in grade school, but never in college. I do travel quite a bit though, if that counts as "studying".

The three locations I chose for my map were: Fairbanks, AK, Juneau, AK, and Antarctica. I currently live in Fairbanks, I was born in Juneau, and I really want to travel to Antarctica which I will (hopefully!) be doing January of 2021. I have to say, one of my main motivators for that destination is the possibility of seeing penguins. Penguins are rad.
